Have you ever had the possibility of presenting your valuable work in front of an international audience? This Call for Rising Star is dedicated to you.

The intent of the workshop is to give a unique opportunity to early career doctors /scientists to participate and more importantly contribute to the success of COPD 2015 – 2nd International Workshop on Lung Health, COPD: New Challenges, New Solutions, that will take place in the beautiful city of Valencia, Spain on February 19-21, 2015.

Following a very successful COPD 2013 meeting that took place in Monaco in December 2013, COPD 2015 will be dedicated to the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and its impact on lung health, and will cover new updates and developments in the discipline, including important topics such as OMICS and COPD; major definitions in the area; COPD risk factors: not only active smoking; COPD complications; COPD controversies; pneumonia and COPD; exacerbations of COPD, and many other important aspects.

Participants must be willing to share these data in a collaborative workshop designed to study, describe and publish these important outcomes. Applicants must be able to attend the entire workshop. Successful applicants in the number of 2, will:

  • Present a 15 minutes relation at the beginning of the Congress during the “Rising Star” session scheduled on Thursday 19 February 2015 in front of the international audience of about 400 specialists
  • Have 10 minutes question time
  • Receive the personal feedback by the 5 chairmen of the congress who will provide you useful advices for the development of you career as researcher and as international congress speaker.
  • Be hosted by the congress that will waive your registration fee and take care of your travel and accommodation costs .

Selection Criteria

Compulsory criteria:

  • The work to be presented should be related to the topics of the congress. Please refer to the website www.lung-health.org for further information.
  • The candidate should be the first author of the work to be presented.
  • The work should be original
  • The work should be presented in English Language
  • The candidate should not have been included in the faculty of a previous international congress

The main selecting criteria will be the relevancy and scientific value of the abstract presented as evaluated by the chairmen of the congress.In case of equality the following criteria of preference will apply:

  • Age: researchers / clinicians under 42 will be given priority
  • Provenience: priority will be given to researchers / clinicians working in low – income countries- with limited access to funds

The choice will be made at the Chairmen discretion before 2 December 2014.
All the candidates will receive written communication about the outcome of the bid.

The work not selected for the “Rising star” session could be eligible for poster presentation and compete for the poster prize. See the instructions here.

How to present

In order to participate please present before 31 October 2014 the following documents:

  •  Full academic curriculum including publication and / or poster presentation made in the past
  •  Complete abstract of the original work you would like to present during the congress.

The correct topic must be selected. It is the submitters’ responsibility to ensure that abstracts topic related.

Guidelines
  • ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FOR POSTER PRESENTATIONS

      • → Authors presenting abstracts must be registered participants. Posters will not be displayed from unregistered authors. The corresponding author should be identified.

      • → Abstracts, must be written in English

      • → Abstracts may only be submitted exclusively online via the congress website.

      • → Abstracts must be submitted on or before the closing date, 31 October 2014. The organisers reserve the right to reject any abstract for failure to comply with submission instructions mentioned on the congress website.Please note that late submissions will not be considered.

      • → It is possible to submit more than one abstract. However, only one presenting author per abstract is permitted.

      • → Please ensure that your abstract does not contain spelling, grammatical or scientific errors. No corrections are possible after the submission deadline. The abstract will be reproduced exactly as submitted. No proofreading will be done.

      • → The presenting author must accept full responsibility for the content, submission and presentation of the abstract, and retain full copyright of their abstract and presentation. By submitting an abstract, authors give consent and authorise the organisers to publish or submit for publication their abstract, presentation, picture and biography, and to include them in any congress printed or electronic publications.

      • → The surname of the first author indicated by you while submitting the abstract will be the one taken into account to list the abstract in alphabetical order, in case this is accepted for printing. First and presenting author can be the same, if this is the case.

      • → Submitters can go back and make changes to an abstract until the deadline. However, please note that finalized abstracts cannot be edited after draft approval.

      • → Notification on acceptance of the abstract(s) will be e-mailed within 12 December 2014.

      • → Acknowledgement of receipt of the submission will be sent to the stated mail address under section “Personal details”.

      • → The corresponding author will receive all correspondence concerning the abstract and is responsible for informing the other authors of the status of the abstract.

      • → Conflict of Interest/Disclosure: Work submitted for presentation must include an acknowledgement of any commercial funding sources. Authors should declare all commercial interests.

      • → Abstracts should be written in English and the complete abstract must not exceed the box space (320 words).

      • → Structured abstracts are mandatory stating clearly the Background/Aims, Methods,Results and Conclusions.

      • → We recommend that you prepare your text in a word processing programme (e.g. Microsoft Word) and then copy-paste the final text into the online abstract submission form.

      • → It is the author’s responsibility to submit a correct abstract. Any errors in spelling, grammar or scientific fact may be reproduced as typed by the author, if accepted.

      • → Changes to abstracts can only be accepted up until the deadline using your Personal Page.
